This piece is close to 100 years old

Early 20th century.

CONDITION: Weaving is pretty good condition, there is minor wear to fringe and some scattered staining.

Origin: The serape tradition originated in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, where these textiles were highly prized for their intricate weaving and vivid colors, achieved through natural dyes like cochineal and indigo.

 Design: They typically feature a central diamond or medallion design, often surrounded by colorful stripes and borders, frequently incorporating the colors of the Mexican flag. 

    Materials & Weaving: Historically made from cotton or agave fibers, and later wool, they are woven on looms, with the treadle loom introduced during the colonial period.
